Many rights that’s Jews had were being taken away year by year. Mostly in 1938 and 1942, some laws Germany had in 1938 were that Jewish kids were not allowed to go to public school, Jews needed to have a middle name of “Sarah” or “Israel,” Jews could no longer be members of the German Red Cross. Some in 1942 were they could not buy books, no milk, not allowed to have pets, not allowed to go to school, and bakeries and candy stores were of-limits to Jews.

I think they built the Berlin memorial monument so we can remembers those who died in the holocaust and never forget them.

In the beginning of the holocaust, many activities and entertainment for Jew were being taken away and made into a law were Jews weren’t allowed to go to a specific fun place for example, one of the laws were that Jews weren’t allowed to go to the beach. As the years passed Jews were allowed to get certain foods like meat, milk, candies, and eggs. They also separated Jewish kids from going to public schools, they weren’t allowed to have pets. As the years kept going their were many laws for the Jews. They had little freedom.

A restriction I would have trouble with is the one were Jews weren’t allowed to have pets in 1942 and have no milk because I need a dog to live and I love milk. I would really want a German Shepard so I can play with him and have fun when I’m bored.

THE BOY ON THE WOODEN BOX 1. In the book “ THE BOY ON THE WOODEN BOY,” the main character Leon leyson shows me that I should be happy and not everything will go perfect. He shows that we should also hope for the better, he hoped when he was being punished or tortured. Leyson was also very brave when he was at the concentration camp of the Nazis.  2.  The choices people made during the rise of the Nazi Party and the Holocaust teach us about the power and impact of our choices and how easily small choices can escalate into something bigger, the laws go from simply losing your job or forced to not being able to go to the beach, which was easily overcome, to being forced to change your name to something easily identifiable and had to wear a yellow star that marked you as a Jew. These choices that the Nazis made that were small at first slowly but then started going to more serious laws.

Quarter 2 Reflections

My favorite book I’ve read so far in 2nd quarter was, “Fast Break” by mike lupica. It was a very interesting book about basketball and it was about a boy whose parents died and was adopted, which is sad. An area I got better in was TIQA because when i first started TIQA’s it was very challenging for me but now that I been working with TIQA’s almost 2 years, I’ve got much better at writing them.  In my book challenge I am around 4 books so far. Something I struggled with in 2nd quarter was writing claims and evidence about book.

THE BOY ON THE WOODEN BOX Leyson is a survivor of the Holocaust on Oskar Schindler's list. Leon Leyson was ten years old when the Nazis invaded Poland and his family was forced to go to the ghetto. That is something important I thought about so far reading the book.  When starting to read the book  I felt happy because he enjoyed school, playing with his friends and being with his family. Then half way reading I was sad because the Nazi has taken over his family and now he’s in the ghetto. A question I would ask the author would be why a false rumor spreads about the Jews, they say they are doing something called a blood libel. What does this mean? 2 problems leyson faced was that he and his family were taken away to live in the ghetto, and other problem was that he was tortured everyday.
